Hack on it if you will, it's hackable for sure, but if that thing picked up it's legs, most of us would be wondering how much we could get in trade for our cars on one of those things.

it's a dead end. For starters, they are basing the design on a cartoon, not on rational consideration of the task.
The starting point is, "it's gotta have two legs with big feet, and there has to be a person sitting high up in it, between the "hips." The appearance is first, and the rest of the design is how to make the thing move while looking like that.
By contrast, any modern military equipment is designed by considering the requirements, and then the design follows from that. As a testament to what happens when you go the other way, look at the number of "flying saucers" that currently actually fly. There are none because that design is not feasable. It has been pursued to death, and found to be pure fantasy - disk-like objects cannot fly in a controllable manner at any kind of speed, with any altitude.

no one ever really said that a mech-lookin-like thing is the most effective or smartest design. Even in the books and junk they talk about how much heat whatever fictional components that drive the things put out, associated cooling issues etc.
ok.. maybe it's just "something to do"
I guess my point is that if their goal is to make a mockery of the idea, and create a rollerskating mechanical suit, then they are on the right track. If their goal is to make a feasible walking weapons platform, their first mistake is trying to copy what they saw in a movie, cartoon, or game.
