Dumb question... So does the router slow down the connection?

yea, it should just a tad...basically the kbps has to go through more distance I guess...not exactly sure, but I'll let the network experts answer this one.

I've just run the same test on my laptop connected to the same router. The laptop has a 2gig Pentium 4 processor and I'm getting

239kbps (Down) Much faster.
119kbps (Up) Samo.

It seems processor speed makes quite a difference to down speed!

** Speed 1218(down)/1423(up) kbps **
(At least 24 times faster than a 56k modem)
Logged result.
Finish.

Test running..........
** Speed 197(down)/261(up) kbps **
(At least 3 times faster than a 56k modem)
Logged result.

Your download speed : 197720 bps, or 197 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 24.1 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 261917 bps, or 261 kbps.
Your upload speed is much faster than down.. have you tweaked?

That's almost the exact same result I get every single time I run the test, day or night. This is on RoadRunner's cheapest business class service ($50/mo) on my wireless laptop...
