Who cares, this case is over 40 years old. Yes, it was an outrage, yes justice wasn't served at the time, but this is old news. E-Arguing is pointless...we should talking about hot women and sports...not this crap.

Like i said before...if they found his DNA there and they just linked him...that is a slam dunk. If they found his finger prints....slam dunk...

40 years later....how the hell would he even remember anything about that particular night?

[example]Would you remember anything about a night in 1984 that someone claims you were drunk driving? You would have no clue..... but there were some dead witnesses who claimed you were drunk....therefore you must have been! ??? You are going to jail for drunk driving. [/example]

Innocent until proven guilty. proven guilty in my mind needs to be stronger than 40 year old reread testimonys.... no DNA makes it pretty hard to prove in my mind.

I am not sticking up for this old KKK member for any particular reason. It could be any 40 year old case that has questionable (in my mind) proof, so don't read into this that I am some KKK lover!
I am not saying your a KKK lover but comparing a triple murder to drunk driving is ridiculous. There is a reason a case like this was brought up, it was a MURDER... no statue of limitation. I do not know the statue of limitation on drunk driving but it is probably not like a Murder case. Now if the evidence was obviously not enough to convict a man of murder than how can 12 jurors all agree that he is guilty? Obviously a article can only describe so much, somthing was obviously standing out in this case to convict him.

Scot, you should seriously do a lot more research about this case before you continue spouting opinions about it.
He was not only CLEARLY guilty of ordering there murders, as well as numerous cross burnings, lynchings, etc while in a leadership pssition in the KKK, but he ADMITTED it to a number of people. The amount of evidence was pretty overwhelming. The entire transcrips of BOTH trials are available as a matter of public record.
The reason he wasn't retried immediately is because in the late 60's in Mississippi it wa IMPOSSIBLE to empower a jury without having someone on it who was either a member or close associate of the Klan..
Anyway I'm done.. this old bastard disgusts me. It's a pity he was able to walk free all these years.. he won't even do 5 yrs of his sentence, he'll be dead of old age.

Am I missing something here? This reads that he was NOT CONVICTED.
They did reject the murder charges; they did convict him of manslaughter, however. He got sentenced earlier today to the max of 3 consecutive 20 year terms. Since he's 80, I'd say this guy is pretty much F'd.

I don't care if you killed someone 80 years ago... this guy deserves what he is now getting. Being a racist KKK member is all the more reason to put this guy behind bars. How could anyone defend him?!?!

okay....the guy deserves to be in jail. Now the second part........

wouldn't you be pissed as a relative of those 3 that it took 40 ing years to get him in jail??? As long as i knew he was guilty i would be pretty pissed that someone didn't put him away 38 years ago..

The news tonight is reporting that he actually received a stiffer penalty for manslaughter that he would have received with a murder conviction. He will be eligible for parole in 20 years now, as opposed to 10 years for a murder conviction. How ed up is that? Not that it really matters at his age...
