Farting on the mainland
This is a serious question!
Talking with several people from the mainland (or the states), when someone cracks a fart in a meeting or a class, no one makes any remarks about it and they just kind of move away from the perpetrator. Is this true? No one starts laughing about it?
Here in Hawaii, when someone lets one go, we start cracking up and teasing the perpetrator. Is this just a Hawaii thing?

I think it depends on the setting. If it is among friends we do the same as you islanders. But in a formal or business setting everyone just usually pretends it never happened and continue on with business as usual.
Passing gas, as I like to call it, is tolerated in different situations but I'll never understand why.

I've had guys walking in front of me as we enter a Rest Area restroom let one off.
Geez, that's just f'ing rude in my book. But I think some folks just lack the common decency to live in a civilized world.
I still excuse myself to relieve gas pressure whenever possible. Just not a good thing to get used to doing.
