Fascinating
As I was reading through the March issue of Road & Track,I found an interesting article on the 2000 Jaguar R1 Formula 1 car. Some highlights:
0-60 . . .2.7 sec
0-160 . .6.2 sec
0-1320 ft. (1/4 mile). . . 9.4 @181.0
Engine type: V-10, 2998 cc, 800 bhp @ 17,500 rpm (redline 18k). 267bhp/liter
Drivetrain: 6-speed inline with a 3.8" diameter clutch (seems incredibly small).
Top speed: 220+mph
Skid pad: 4.30g+
Slalom: 107.8 mph
Stopping distance: 60-0/72ft, 80-0/118ft.

Very impressive, indeed! I remember when I was in high school in the very early 80s and read a Popular Hotrodding (is that magazine still around?!) and they had an article about Shirley Muldowney's top fuel dragster. For some reason that article has stuck with me for almost 20 years. But the car was powered by a Keith Black Hemi, blown (of course) and made upwards of 2500 horsepower. This would propel precious Shirley from 0-60 in .7 seconds...
Yes, kids, that's 7/10th's of ONE second...!
I don't really follow top fuel, but to those who do, how does that compare with the times that are achieved today?
Anyway, wow, can you imagine? That's almost instantaneously to 60mph. A mere blink of an eye...!
Amazing...
