Hmm, forgot to mention regret. I suppose I regret buying that '06 BMW 330i most. It wasn't an awful car, just boring, expensive, and it was shortly before the 335i was announced.
Not to keep bashing your 20/20 hindsight, but the forums were pretty reliable with future engines.

The new body style was using an E46 engine and it was guaranteed not to last more than a season. BMW always staggers their introductions, sedan, engine+coupe, M3+vert, etc. Usually, in that order.

Details?
first bad part was trading my 99 2dr tahoe in for it, i miss that car. (ended up buying an 03 suburban to replace it)

i had the gti for about 10 or 11 months, babied it, put 6700 miles on it by the end of my ownership.

in its 6700 miles and 10 months with me it went to the dealer for:
water in tail light (no replacement as it was "normal")
power steering communication failure (parts upgraded/ replaced)
power steering communication failure (more parts upgraded/ replaced)
uneven brake wear (no service as it was "normal")
steering column - ecu communication failure (more parts upgraded/replaced)
would not declare the car a lemon

traded for an 04 s2000

7 yr old s2000 in the past 8 or 9 months has been to the dealer for:
brake fluid change and inspection - everything turned out great

all of the GTI issues were covered under warranty or written of as normal and i never had to pay a dime for the issues, but i wanted a car that didnt need repairs every other month.

^ Shame, that car looks like a lot of fun.

But yeah unfortunately I keep hearing about VW's poor reliability.

aside from my s2000, i like my kimber and my casio pathfinder a lot.
I'm loving the Kimber... How much did it set you back? I've been always meaning to pick up a nice 1911, but always end up getting something else first. I love the 1911 style grip angle, feels so nice in the hand.

Thanks!

the 1911 grip angle is amazing, so is the trigger. the S&W M&P was designed to mock the 1911 grip angle so if you want something reliable, comfortable, and affordable, look into the M&P.

as for the kimber pictured, it was $1580. its an Ultra Covert II. I love it. Its been super reliable, only jammed a few times when other people were shooting it and limp wristing it like little girls.

Fav: My Movado watch, its not particularly expensive at around a grand, but god I love it. It's wearable art, considering I can't tell the time on the damn thing.

I've got a couple of XDs (has a 1911 grip angle)... was going to go get a glock for carry, and the guy at the gunshop showed me an XD and they felt a million times better and more natural in my hand than the glock. I've been meaning to pick one up, but I always seem to get something else instead because for the price, there is a lot of other nice stuff out there, rifles, etc...

But I need to get one, you can't call a gun collection complete without having a 1911 although I doubt I will ever call mine complete
