Fcuking Hackers...
Got a call from my bank re: my credit card.
"Please call our security department ASAP!"
Someone got access to my card # and was trying to order $8,330 worth of Coach leather goods over the internet with it.
2nd time in two years... what a PITA.
Sorry... just wanted to vent. I'm glad the bank recognized it as being fraudulent. Now I've gotta update all my auto-pay bills... take new pictures... all that fun stuff.
Modern living, I guess.
Wow...good thing they caught that in time...
My father was the victim of identity theft about 2 years ago, and nobody caught it until the credit card bills came in. The thieves had used his credit card numbers to withdraw a lot of money in Reno. It was a freakin' mess to sort out, and the whole time, the credit card companies were accusing me of being the thief!
Like my father, you probably have pretty good credit, and this is one of the downsides of it...glad nothing happened.

Sorry to hear your situation was so ugly... They've got a lot of nerve accusing you!
This will be an inconvenience for me - but that's about it. The last time around the FBI got involved. I wonder how this one is going to play out...

Did the FBI actually do anything helpful the last time around? I'm pleasantly surprised that they got involved...with my father's situation, the feeling I got was that law enforcement didn't want to deal with it at all, and just wanted to leave the matter to the credit card companies. The reason for that impression was that my father's attempts to file a police report were met with rather dismissive attitudes.
What's freaky is that my father actually met with one of the thieves. The guy called him at work and asked to meet over lunch. When they met, the guy had a few pieces of personal information and demanded several hundred dollars in cash to leave us alone. With few other options, my father forked over the cash, but the thieves called to harass us again about a week later. At that point, we stopped responding to their demands, and so far they haven't resurfaced.

He met one of them?
That sounds very dangerous. I'd call FBI back and see what happens.
Either that - or meet somewhere where you can plant a weapon on them and take 'em out. Self Defense, your Honor!!!
In my case they got the guys who hacked the database but other than a phone call from them - that's all I got.

Good shit!
It's encouraging to hear that law enforcement actually gives a crap about this stuff...
I don't know if we even contacted the FBI. That might've been a good idea, since the local police department didn't seem to give a damn...it's been almost 2 years since the incident, so it probably won't do much good to contact them now. But, should this unfortunate situation arise again, that's definitely something we'll do.

That sucks. Things like this make me really worried about buying stuff online...
I'm generally a pretty cautious person, and I only buy stuff from more reputable/bigger sites. But just because a site has a better reputation doesn't mean it won't get hacked...
I wish incidents like this are better publicized to protect us, the consumer...
