kanye is not hip hop? hmmmmmmmm...... just becuase he has crossover success does Not mean he's not hip hop. whats hip hop then? I bet anyone you name has given a nod to kanye

Closest mainstream person I can think of offhand would be Nas, and whaddaya know, even he knows "hip hop is dead".
Don't get me wrong, they both make catchy beats, but don't get it twisted, I know 2 year olds who could come up with better lyrics then whats on the radio defined as "hip hop" nowadays.

Despite popular belief, yes there is a difference between "rap" and "hip hop". Do you even know what a lyricist is? I doubt it, because finding them on the radio nowadays is pretty rare. I bet you anyone I name you would have no idea who they are, and I would figure its better we keep it that way.

I'm willing to bet I Would know them, actually. Not that its any great feat to know underground music. And Nas, underground? Nas, true hip hop? I'm not a Nas hater... but... Puuhhhlllleeeaaaassseee. I have about all of his albums, I like the guy, I even know most of his lyrics, but what stands out the most to me about 'Nas' is his hypocrisy. But thats just my opinion. The same goes for most rappers, or hip hop artists, though. You shouldn't be so sure you can just Tell someone what they do and don't know, because usually it just makes you look ignorant. I bet if I brought up someone I really liked you might shoot them down and say they're not real Hip hop, but.... you know... its all a matter of opinion, usually. Truth time= a lot of pop rap is terrible, but so is a lot of underground hip hop. Its like "I'm just not blowing up cuz I keep it real and I'm underground." No, actually, your production is sub-par and your lyrics, although containing goofy metaphors that may sound 'deep' or something, are actually incoherent. Of course, that doesnt apply to everyone, just a sometimes thing. I can appreciate a lot of music, actually: underground hip hop, some mainstream stuff, r and b, rock, alternative and some classical. i dont really care for country, but you wont hear me downing it because some of the guitarists put in work on their music (wood brothers). but my first music was rap, and I wouldn't say i'm uninformed on it.

I just assume (same as you did, which is probably bad on my part too) that you are young, and just don't understand what started back in the 80s (yes I have a box full o tapes going up to stuff nowadays), or just the overall culture of it. As long as you like it.. more power to you, I don't need to convince you to like someone, I just stated my opinion that this doesn't equate as real hip hop albums to me, like you said, opinion. Thats all. No need to put words in my mouth.
Lemme know how you like the albums.
I'm not giving 50 cent a chance, I can't roll with his music at all. Robin Thicke did a collabo with him that sounds good but 50 ruins it for me. But, honestly, I just don't like him that much. Inside rumors say (what 8D was pointing out) that even 50 knows he wouldn't outsell kanye but the 'beef' would encourage purchases on both ends, reviving interest in a fading 50 cent and quite possibly putting kanye at unheard selling levels of platinum in one week. Universal owns both, and will undoubtedly reap some gleaming rewards. Hella good business idea, to me.
I feel like the quality of hip hop has steadily gone down since Tupac's death. 50 and Kanye can
-off. Don't get me wrong, I can get really drunk and enjoy either of their songs at a bar or house party, but then again, I enjoy a 10 at 2 and a 2 at 10 as well.

Neither-- to me the concept of "albums" is dead in the music industry, in all genre. I just listen to DJ mixes, I get all the hot shit, no filler, no skits, no 32 million scrub rappers the already not-so-good rapper is trying to put on.
Out of the two, I prefer Kan. His music has a lot of soul and I appreciate that he is portrays himself as a flawed person. Unlike on-line persona, who are prefect in every way, Kan comes off as a HUMAN to me, and I feel that. He speaks his mind, doesn't always do right, but he's living as right as he can.
50 is talented as hell, but I think a lot of his stuff is cheesy, and the constant beef he has with most of the world is simply exhausting. What I don't understand is why everyone is falling over themselves to sign with him? Friggin Havoc and Prodigy are his flunkies now and they have to play second fiddle to Lloyd Banks? They we're better off on their own.
