Default Female equality

in my line of work i have to deal with both men and women(clients)
I over heard one of our clients blabbing on and on and on about how independent she is but was mad when she had a date and they split the tab in half .

im not one to insult the opposite sex but come on. in many ways women are still stuck in that mentality that guys have to sweat and work hard to get with them, in this day and age shouldnt the effort be split in half

If you dont want me to watch the game then i dont want to watch chick flicks with you.
If we go out for a date, shouldnt we pay half and half for our food.
If you think i should get in shape why dont you go to the gym with me.

so on and on and on.

want to see what females think of this aswell as guys.

interesting and correct observation. Women want to have the perks of being a woman, but don't want to be dominated....this is a societal epidemic of american women. Foreign woman are typically the only women that have anything real to offer other than sex.

"What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine."

Next time she complains to you, ask her for the guy's number. When she asks why, just tell her you applaud his ability to be a feminist.

Or, if you want to be a real prick (yet dark and intriguing), just tell her that her date situations don't make for entirely appropriate business conversation, and you want to avoid a hostile workplace.

The thing is, it's not like switching a light. It's not a simple feat to change attitudes that have been around for eons. That's not to say people shouldn't be responsible for their own views. I'm very independent (at times to a fault), but there is still part of me that likes the feeling of being protected by my partner. Do I like it? Not especially, but it's there and so far I haven't been able to will it away.

Most of the OPs examples are less about feminism than compromise in relationships IMO. I don't like/fully understand football, but I'll watch it with the hubby once in awhile. That doesn't mean he has to watch something he doesn't like to make things equal. He could participate in something else that I enjoy and he doesn't and things will balance out.

This speaks more to the rub that I see in these modern days:

How does one create, let alone maintain a valid gender identity when there's little to no incentive or reinforcement for personal responsibility?

Either way, a man (or woman) should not be complicit in his/her own oppression.

Why? Is your sense of your own maleness so fragile that it is threatened by the idea that a woman might be your equal?

Suffer with the S.O. for the sake of the relationship?

It depends on the degree of suffering. Class is nothing more than a series of petty sacrifices.
