If I didn't have to earn a living I'd go back to school to get my PhD in math (algebraic topology), then probably teach college; I love teaching.

High school? I'm not sure I'd have the patience for it. It would be worth a look, however.
first, good luck in the job search.

second, fwiw...i thought i was smarter than 90 - 95% of my teachers in hs, but my best (and favorite) teachers -- who taught computer science, math, and spanish -- had a much bigger influence on what i did later on in college than i could've ever imagined at the time. i ended up majoring in math and computer science, studied abroad in spain, and was only a few courses away from a spanish minor.

not sure what i'm trying to say...but...if you love teaching then hs isn't a bad way to go!

Well... Teaching on any level, I would say is a great thing. Personally, I cannot blame you for bypassing high school. I think that the high school demographic is more impressionable than any other younger age. Given that, I'd like to see intelligent and engaging teachers at that level.

If my wife and I didn't have so many familial obligations, I would give it all up and teach math/science/history at underprivileged schools in a heartbeat.

Don't mean to change the course of the thread... Cheers bud...

Somehow I feel that the road suddenly veered right and this thread careered left.

But your career came to a brief stoplight.

I hope you don't mind the jest, but if we can't laugh at ourselves who can we laugh at?

Not at all.

Amen!

(I was thinking of writing, "I couldn't have said it better," but the truth of the matter is that I could have: I'd have written, ". . . at whom can we laugh?")

Well, it's Wednesday. (See p. 1, post 8 (used to be post 10 till the admins cleaned up the thread).)

Tomorrow I'm scheduled to chat with some folks at UC Irvine about creating their own online course in asset allocation and the Markowitz model; that'll be an easy week's work and $3,000.

I just got a phone call from a gentleman who needs me to send him a CV straightaway because it looks like they'll need some risk management consulting on a project (in the Netherlands, I believe), and I'm on my way to CSU, Fullerton to see if they need anyone to teach Math classes in the Summer.

To top it all off, my wife ordered some Bhut Jolokia seeds and they arrived today.

All-in-all, not bad. It's not $2 million in venture capital, but all-in-all, not bad.
