Default Firefox - flash plugin problem

I installed Mozilla Firefox two days ago and it had been working fine until yesterday. When I open the browser I get a message saying that the flash plugin has performed an illegal operation and that it is recommended that I restart the navigator. I don't get the message everytime, but it happens so much that it gets annoying.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks.

How do I install Flash?

For Windows, this popular plugin can be found here:

http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/downlo...anguage=English

Download the file, close Firefox completely (File > Exit) and run the installation. In the dialog that appears, click on the Other browser... button. There you must specify the path to the plugin folder for Firefox. You should know in what folder you installed Firefox. In that folder, there's a sub-folder called "plugins". Select that folder and click Select, then click Install.

You can always do a search for the plugin folder.

I still get the same message. Restarted the computer in case I had to do that after the install, and it's still there.

Windows 98

I just reinstalled it and it still gives me the message.

I completely removed firefox from my computer and downloaded it again. All my settings were saved from before I removed it. Is this normal?

I set it to allow popups on two sites and those sites were already allowed when I reinstalled it.

98 huh...

Yea it's normal for your setting to still be there because you didn't completely remove it before you re-installed it. So basically the config files stay there and are used. If you want, you can try completely removing Firefox, you'll most like have to got to where it got installed and delete the folder if it still remains after you uninstall it. Once it's completely uninstalled, reinstall it and see what happens.

Did you make sure when you installed the plug-in, that you installed it in the plugins directory? In windows2000, it's locate here: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins. It will probably be the same for you. When installing like the instructions above, when you click browse, you are pointing it to this directory.

Yea, that's where I saved it to.

To remove it, I went to add/remove programs and removed Mozilla Firefox. Then I went to my Program files folder and deleted the folder for Mozilla, and deleted the .exe file to install it. Shouldn't this completely remove it from my system?
