I've wondered about this in movies before. Why would electric current flow through them even if the outlet submerges? I mean, they are standing on an insulated surface at a distance, plus non-deionized water has reasonable conductivity.

But that DOES look like a Darwin wanna-be!

Yes they are on a somewhat insulated surface but there is also a hot wire and a ground in there. It's along the same lines as saying " Well, I've got rubber boots on so I'll just grab a hot power wire in one hand and ground wire in the other." Doesn't matter what's on your feet because the power isn't trying to exit through your feet in this case It has other paths it can take to complete the circuit.
