Default first time flyer. any hints/tips?

so i just purchased my first rc plane. its a cessna 182.

http://www.parkflyers.com/Cessna_Pro_Delux...ane_p/4303d.htm

i read and watched some reviews stating this is a pretty sturdy trainer, plus ive always loved the look of cessnas. i opted for the electric over the gas because im new to all of this and i was looking for something ready to fly right out of the box

The only suggestion I have is get a simulator if you don't want to spend most of your learning time repairing your plane. It's not impossible to learn to fly without a simulator, but IMO it's better to use the simulator until you get used to the reversed orientation when you're flying inbound, you'll save a lot of money not replacing broken parts.

What's a simulator?

Like Microsoft Flight Simulator? Or is there some RC specific simulator?

realflight.com is good for learning how to fly.

My suggestion is to join a club and one of the dedicated instructors will show you how to fly.

Have fun. Used to build and fly but then figured out the plane was having most of the fun so I swicthed to FULL scale Cessna's. Now I just build occasionally.....and go fly the full scales.

My dad did the same. He built ~5 aircraft from scratch, and crashed 3. He had much more fun flying full-scale's as well

Awesome! Have fun learning. Light and easy touch on the sticks, no abrupt inputs.
