Default Fishfryer's Boycott List

My boycott list is as follows:

Walmart- They have ruined the landscape of smalltown America.

The Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas - A friend of mine was raped by a security guard in the fish tunnel. Although it is on tape, nobody would do anything about it.

Miller Lite - They tend to have rusty caps

Swordfish, and to a lesser degree farm raised salmon - I am against longliners, those caught by standard hook and line are OK. Farm raised salmon is just nasty.

Most Chinese Electronic Junk - This is a tough one to maintain. It is not that I dislike the Chinese people, just the opposite is true. I hate the electronic crap that is filling our landfills and making our children stupid.

Thanks for listening, I feel better now.

I'm with ya on Wal-Mart. I could rant about them for awhile....Unfortunately, money talks. When a company is literally being begged by every little town to open up a store, of course they're going to build.

Wal-Mart did not ruin the landscape of small towns. All the people who shop there did. If you don't like it, don't go there, get your stuff and Mom & Pop stores, it is a free country. If they didn't keep making money they would not stay open.

Wal-Mart has become a victim of its own success like Microsoft. They are just the ultimate expression of American Capitalism. Money talks.

What do you consider Chinese electronic junk? Most electronics are made there now. Digital cameras, laptops, MP3 players, etc.

Fair enough question.

Most children's toys are junk when compared to Lincoln logs and Legos. Usually the batteries cost more that the manufacturing cost of the toy.

Cheap CD/DVD players from third rate brands (not Sony, Pioneer etc).

You are beginning to see very inexpensive, very unreliable digital cameras in the 2 or 3 megapixel range already. Soon after that you'll see very cheap linux based laptops (when flat screen technologies gets a little cheaper).

Most Gadgets.

I think the reason that the ipod is so successful is that people see quality in the product and they are tired of buying crap. The ipod may be built in China (then again it may not be, I don't know), but it is a good bet that it is a more quality product than one from 'Emerson' or 'MPX' or 'Funai'.

My point is BUY LESS JUNK.

I disagree on the batteries cost portion. My previous employer imported alkaline batteries (AA size) at $0.05~$0.08 a piece - they're not copper top Duracel, mind you, but I didn't see much of a difference when using those.

Would you consider Xerox, HP, Sony, Pioneer, Toshiba, Honda, Toyota junk? Based on your argument, all the brands above are junk because a good portion of their product lineup are built in China now.

Try living in this country and NOT buy something made in China - I don't think it's impossible but probably not feasible financially.

The difference between Emerson/MPX/Funai and what you called third rate brands vs. Sony, HP, Toshiba, etc. are: 1. Marketing, and 2. Initial R&D.

I'm with you on Wal-Mart but coming from a supplier's point of view: Wal-Mart destroys manufacturers, especially those Chinese dumb enough to believe Wal-Mart can give them real business.

So if you are a entrepreneur here in the USA you are okay with the great unwashed if you are semi-successful but God forbid you reach the level of Wal Mart or Microsoft because you get the whiners who claim you are the devil himself. What a crock of shlt. These guys just played the game better than the rest and handed them their asses on a tray. Good for them .

Don't like them don't shop there or invest in them. Thankfully I am more than pleased with my Microsoft / Wal-Mart investments .

I love walmart. The Mom and Pop shops around me don't sell the stuff Walmart does. If I want something special or High End I go to Mom and Pop shops. If I want a 12 pack of Cat food pouches I go to Walmart and pay 3.40 instead of 5.25 at a local CHAIN supermarket. If I want high end Balsamic vinegar or high end Cat food or a high end Boogie board I go to A Mom & Pop shop. No need to buy a nice Boogie Board for My nephew at a local Surf shop for 39.99 when I can get him a decent one at Walmart for 14.99. Just the way it is. I'm Sorry but alot of Mom & Pop stores have ridiculous prices. The key to a Mom & Pop shop is to be a specialty store. The big chains deal with general items.

I love cheap Electronics! The technology world is non stop progression. What you buy today will be old technolgy for sure in a few years. I buy what works for four or five years. If it still works after that ...thats great...but most likely it will be in my closet collecting dust because the technolgy has totall changed to the point where upgrading was well worth it. I can play a music CD on 39.00 cd player and a 500 dollar CD player the difference is so minimal it ridiculous. If it can be spotted at all. I have no problem with the Chinese people or there work ethic or there products...I do have a problem with the Chinese goverment. Awesome culture, amazing people, crappy goverment.

I dislike Salmon all together. But I'm big on Farm Raised Fish. I love farm raised shrip and catfish....yummy. Farm raised Fish is a very good Idea and I support. Considering I eat fish 6 to 10 times a week I like the farm raised stuff. Swordfish is full of Mercury and I don't touch the stuff.

Miller Lite is nasty. I like Coors Light but all it really does is make me pee alot. But Coorslight advertising annoys me. That old guy in the snow with the mountains......he is full of poopie! I like Michelob products but hard to find on tap. I like Tap beer and drink 4 or 5 pints a day. Good stuff. I like domestics. I have been Boycotting Miller Lite my whole life so I agree.

I heard Atlantis charges like 12 dollars for a Burger. I don't eat red meat but I still thought it was crazy. Rape is serious and discusting, I will Boycott Atlantis.

Although the rape case is unfortunate, one person can't speak for the entire crew.

I had a great time there several years ago. Getting comped for room and food made it that much more enjoyable. The service was great and the food was decent. The scenery was beautiful. Being able to see stingrays from your hotel room was quite the experience.
