Default Flight 93

The one thing that is slowly becoming apparent with flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania is that some of the passengers chose to fight the terrorists.

The plane ended up crashing in the woods and it is likely that this resulted from a struggle within the aircraft. Certainly, this appears likely given the phone call by Tom Burnett to his wife.

While we may never know what exactly happened on flight 93, the apparent actions of these people probably ensured this aircraft did not come down in a populated area. The black box may reveal more information yet.

The suspicion is that the terrorist were looking for Camp David. Even if they failed to find this, there is little doubt that given an opportunity, they would have chosen to crash the aircraft in a populated area to try to cause maximum casualties, possibly in the middle of Pittsburg.

The American people should salute these individuals and I hope in the days to come, their courage in the face of impending doom and in a time of such mourning, is not forgotten.

CNN reported that at least one other passenger on that flight made a similar cell call, saying that when the men on the flight learned about the WTC flights they then voted to try overwhelm their hijackers.

If true exactly as you've written it, it is a profound comment on our society that even in times of unspeakable terror our citizens still behave democratically and vote on their course of action. God bless them.

One particular incident still puzzles me about this flight. The guy that was locked in the bathroom told the 911 rep that he saw smoke on the wing of the plane.

Hmmm....

Reports indicate that the airplane was almost going straight down when it hit the ground... atleast at a steep downgrade. The blackbox was found IN the crater. Im guessing that this is because of a struggle over the controls of the plane... when they couldnt win them over, the just pushed it into the ground. If this is the case, God Bless Those Passengers.

my theory about this is that before this plan could intentionally crash some place important, the U.S. actually shot it down. I don't think they will admit it because, there were Americans on the flight and they can make the families of those lost on the flight more at ease because they know there loved ones were heroes at the end of their lives. This is just my opion, though.

A friend also told me that she heard on CNN that 93 was headed to Chicago to do what they did to the WTC to the Sears Tower...

Anyone else hear that?

The flight track for UA 93 shows that it turn around near Cleveland and headed back towards Washington DC before crashing in Pennsylvania, it wasn't even headed to Chicago from its flight path.

One of the people on board that made a phone call was an ex co-worker of mine Jeremy Glick who also reported that they had chosen to try and overpower the hijackers.

As to why the plane went straight down, hopefully the black box and flight recorders will tell us, if the plane was thrown into a rapid maneuver it would not be unusual to lost complete control and nose into the ground, these aren't exactly fighter jets. Although this wasn't a 737, they have been known to crash from the rudder sticking. Controls also could have been damaged in the struggle or switches flipped that locked hydrolics into the wrong position, etc. The hijackers may also have thrown the plane into a dive when they realized the passengers would have regained control to avoid capture and humiliation.

I can tell you my first reaction would be to strap in and throw open the emergency exit door and keep the plane from getting to a populated area if I thought I couldn't get control back from the hijackers and I knew what their plan was.

Fortunately my sister who was scheduled to fly UA 93 from Newark to SF next week was not on the plane.

God Bless America!

They found debrit a couple miles from the crash site. Papers and stuff.. One reporter mentioned it might have been because one of the doors was opened.
