Follow up on Civic post (dealership kudos)
Yesterday I posted about how I got charged $130 even though they didn't fix my car and it wasn't under warranty. Today I had it in again (to install a part that had come in for a non-related repair), and while I was there I asked the service manager about the diagnostic charge. He said that one of the loopholes in the HondaCare warranty is that if they diagnose a problem, and it's not covered, you are responsible for paying for the diagnosis. I said I understood, but I had said up front that if there was more than $50 worth of work to be done, that I wanted to approve it over the phone first. I did get a call, but the tech did not specifically say that I would pay for further diagnosis, only that he was going to "keep looking at it." Anyways, the service manager apologized, and said that I had to understand the tech still did use some of his time (which I do), and would I accept paying the $50 that I had already said I would, and he would refund the difference? This was actually the proposal that I had gone in with in mind, and I accepted.
We both discussed it in a calm and friendly manner, and both parties left thinking they got a fair deal. The manager didn't jeopardize a customer relationship over a relatively trivial ammount of money.
So since it is common to (often rightly) slam Honda dealers and service departments on this board, I thought it only fair to share my GOOD experience, and recommend that anyone in the Main Line, PA area use Main Line Honda.
