Default Following up after submitting a resume

After I submit a resume, should I follow up on it? If I should follow up, how long should I wait? If I submit a resume online, is it OK to call? Can someone educate me on what is considered acceptable in this situation?

If you mailed it, I would call to see if it got there (3-4 days) and say "I will look forward to hearing from you after you have had a chance to review it." Companies like thoroughness and persistance, but not nagging, so walk the line on that idea.

Online is tricky because the premise is so impersonal. I'd wait 3-4 days to follow up if you go that route.

Good luck with the job hunt

Thanks.

Anybody else have anything to say on the subject?

If they have an HR contact on the website, follow up in one business week with a phone call inquiring about the position. I would also submit a cover letter with your resume so it stands out more.

some companies specifically ask that you DON'T follow up on your resume submission, I'd be sure to follow that guideline as well.

Otherwise, 3-5 days, depending on when you sent it in.

there is a procedure that is followed when receiving resumes... they first seperate the NO from the maybe... and then maybes to the "i want to interview this person"... i'm not in HR that's just common sense.

when i was looking for employment, i had people calling me within after day i submitted my resume. on the other hand, i still have people calling me after a month for an interview. usually, if you don't hear from them within 2 weeks, don't bother.

exactly, if you make the pile they want to talk to you'll hear within a few days generally.

If you submit your resume online, and you don't hear back from them within 3 business days, the odds are they just aren't too interested. You might want to follow up with another email, but every job I've ever found online has contacted me within 48 hours.
