I appreciate all the input guys.

I'm the same way with buying, I'd prefer to buy local, but the difference here is actually $463 if you include the tax, so it's quite a lot of money.

Things that make you go hmmm...

I don't have much to add. It's Fox that shows their content in 720p. All the disney networks (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2) go 1080i. CBS is 1080i, I'm not sure about NBC. I just know their sound sucks.

I'm pretty sure all standard TV is 480i not 480p. DVDs are 480p. I don't think, but I'm not sure, digital cable is shown at 480p.
Wrong. Fox, ESPN, and ABC all broadcast in 720P. NBC, CBS, and I think most of the other cable HD stations are all 1080i.

Via the Washington Post, three articles you need to read, and pay attention to the additional links on these pages:

Well, just stopped by my local Best Buy and they agreed to match the price of one of the places on pricegrabber, instantly saving me $225! However, I'm not 100% sold on the Samsung, I really like the color on the Mitsubishi, something about a color wheel with more than 3 colors on it.

The Mitsu Platinum and Diamond series TV's are supposed to be crazy awesome, right?

If you are looking at the Mitsu DLP rear projector in a 57" (or its siblings) you will find that it is rather noisy when you get it home. I've also found that the color is just flat out wrong. You will have a hell of a time trying to dial in the greens and when you do, they will be really muted. I have a buddy who just took one back for both reasons.

I would take the Sammy over the Mitsu. You cannot go by what you see entirely at the store since they will most likely not be setup properly.

And I too have heard the Mitsus are noisy

We bought the Samsung tonight, so hopefully I'll be happy with it, we'll see.

Next up: cables.

yep, most TVs have the reds pushed and greens muted by default. It looks pleasing but is flat out wrong.

Forunately, samsung dlp sets let you adjust each color individually. You need color filters to properly set them, along with a test pattern. I highly recommend the DVD called "Digital Video Essentials" as it will help you achieve a near-professional level of calibration.

warning: it can take hours to do right.

buy cables from monoprice.com

The prices are so low, yet the quality is exceptional. I have placed many orders with them and I am always amazed at what I get for the money. There is absolutely no reason in my mind to buy expensive name brand cables over anything from monoprice.
