former smokers: how were you convinced to quit?
My husband and I both quit cold turkey 22 years ago and for me, a bad addict it, was the hardest thing I've ever done. I still have dreams/nightmares about smoking and in these dreams I am completely addicted again, and I think " oh shit! I'm gonna have to quit all over again " I wake so relieved to not have really smoked. So for me cigs gave me a life time addiction - I say I'm a puff away from a pack a day, and I do still get an occasional craving. Haven't touched one tho.
I'll never forget the horrors of smoking such as running out of cigs before the days of all night stores
Any how, a person can quit when they really put their mind to it. I played weird games with myself like visualizing clean lungs and really getting grossed out by other stinky smokers. Also our daughter was a year old and was starting to imitate and pretend to smoke so I knew I had to do it for her. I ate a lot of hard candy, gum, carrots. Also I cleaned all the windows and washed everything to clean up the house of smoke.
But really, dwelling on the negatives about smoking is really helpful, get her some pamphlets from the drugstore or something.
I don't know about your friend but I hope she decides to take care of herself. I know so many older folks with vascular and heart damage not to mention lung cancer. It's just really sad.
Any how that's my 2 cents.
