Front page of Sunday Paper - Ritalin Debate
from the newspaper article.....
A.D.D. in it's hyperactive form effects 5% of all school age students. Ritalin (which i kept spelling ridalin..duh) is being prescribed to more than that 5% in my local 2 counties. They don't state how much more percentage wise, or why 100% of all A.D.D. cases would somehow get the prescription.
I THINK SOME DOCTORS MUST BE OVERPRESCRIBING IT. Puzzling how more than 100% of the possible canidates are taking it...... I would guess that 25% of the 5% A.D.D effected are not taken it..... that would mean at least 25% of people (plus the additional % which they didn't give a #) are taking it in error! overprescribed!
Since this report is really only about my 2 local counties... to sum it up.. "it must be in the water"

About thirty years ago, when I was in junior high, my family doc prescribed Ritalin for me because I was sleeping in class. Thus began a ten year (but mostly harmless) flirtation with more powerful amphetamines.
Ritalin for ADD is a behavior control drug, not a curative drug. Everyone should be very cautious about it.

Scot, you might consider Ritalin for your affliction, ESD (excessive speed disorder).

Actually, in my experience, Ritalin's ability to focus one's attention on a single task at hand is incredibly well-suited to driving.
I don't recommend that anyone take drugs and drive, but I also don't think that Ritalin patients are told by their doctors not to drive.
