While the Simpsons is undoubtedly the best cartoon of this era, especially for adults, I don't think this poll is complete without including Beavis and Butthead

true...beavis and butthead was a huge step forward in funny cartoons, but I guess since it hasn't been on tv for so damn long I just plain forgot about it.

While South Park is second with, albeit briefly, flashes of brilliance ("Step One, steal underwear. Step Two... Step Three, profit!") it's the Simpsons who are gods of the cartoon world, consistently bringing hilarity and the bizarre to millions...
