Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta - Killed in wreck
Scott Kalitta, 46, was transported to Old Bridge Township Hospital after his car exploded and continued to progress down the drag strip, eventually venturing off the end of the track in the fourth and final round of qualifying Saturday at the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals. He was pronounced dead a few minutes ago.

The video is crazy. His car is all in flames but when he gets to the very end, there's a massive fireball. No way he could have survived.
that definitely is crazy. that fire must've just disabled everything in there. i wonder if he was trying to brake and couldn't...then hit that wall at full speed. but then again he didn't even try to turn or anything?
from the very little I know about top fuel/funny car dragsters...there isn't much of a turning radius. the steering wheel is just there to make minor adjustments to keep the car out of the other lane, or the wall.
I can't believe there is a track like that though...absolutely no run-off, just a net and a barrier.
RIP man, I'm sorry to hear he's dead in what could have been a lesser accident on a different track,
