Ahahaa, being a smart alec on a test really wouldn't make the teacher take it easier on you. It'll give him something to talk about @ the teacher's lounge though.

I had a TA, whom I never learned the name of, before. We had to write out TA's name on the midterm, so I described him. "Pudgy, tall, white guy in glasses & has a bald spot on the top of his head." That gave him a chuckle, but he actually graded uber hard on the question he corrected for mine.

wait a minute... shouldnt the last problem be limit of x from the POSITIVE side? because its only infinite if u take the limit from x positive (left). Its negative infinite if u take x from the negative side (right)

... or am i retarded? its been awhile.

Right you are on the wrong answer from the professor. If the x approaches 8+, then the denominator would be 8.01-8, 8.001-8, 8.0001-8, etc leading to .01, .001, .0001. So 1 divided by .01 is 100. 1 over .0001 is 10,000, which makes it increasingly larger. Thus, the answer would be infinity. Approaching 8- would be 7.9-8, 7.99-8, 7.999-8. 1 over those answers would make it increasingly negative, so negative inifinity. If you draw the graph for this equation, 8 will have a hollow circle because as x approaches 8, it will be Does Not Exist, or DNE. Hence, the professor is wrong himself. Hmmm...
