G-forces are brutal

Video of a guy riding along in an F-18 goes through a few high-G maneuvers.
Gets knocked out cold for a while.
I've always wondered what it would feel like and wanted to go on a ride along, but that's pretty intense.

I am thinking maybe the NAVY shouldn't be letting fat, out-of-shape people on these ride-alongs.

Is it true that side-ways G-force will not cause the pilot to black out, only the up-or-down G-force will?

I flew the F4C Phantom in the AF. We pulled 8-9 Gs. The F14 (now out of service), F15, F16, and F18 can pull up to 15 Gs and cause pilot blackout.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, good, bad, ugly..
A great aircraft, massive thrust, not as maneuverable as some Soviet fighters, but its thrust advantage allowed the pilot to engage and disengage at will. Good over-the-horizon heat-seeking missile capability.
In flight school, upgrading from the T38 trainer to the combat-ready F4, they played a trick on rookies. No food, monitored fluid intake, a 10 Gs+ centrifuge ride. Then aboard the F4, straight up from the tarmac, full afterburners, to ceiling, where both turbines would kick off instantaneously and simultaneously and the aircraft would begin an out of control ballistic roll. On the downward arc, at ceiling, both turbines would kick back on just as instantaneously and simultaneously. If the aircraft's attitude at that moment was pointed upward, the process would repeat. Then quickly back down to the tarmac and exit the aircraft, where some old salts would be waiting and laughing at you. Welcome to the Phantom.
Please don't tell my wife I said this, but flying the F4 was better than sex!
