Default Geek question re: LAN & Dial-up switching

Any of the IT people on the board know of a good app to enable me to switch between a cable LAN connection and a dial-up connection (when travelling with my laptop) without losing my network/proxy etc settings?

Any suggestions appreciated.

What are you running? I think XP already has this feature built in. Of course if you use NT,2k or XP you can just use different hardware profiles (networked or dial-up)

Yep, live Evan says, set up 2 profiles, and they will not conflict in XP at least.

Proved it to myself over newyears, when I plugged the phone in and dialed out...almost too easy

Running 2000 pro on all systems. As advised I have created a new hardware profile on my laptop for modem log-ins and disabled ( in that profile) any network devices that won't be used on dial-up.

Thanks guys

BTW this is worth checking out if you plug your laptop into multiple networks in the course of your business. http://www.MobileNetSwitch.com

Are you sure? I thought I would lose my network settings using that method. What the heck. Who am I to argue with the experts? Going to try it now.

heheheh I just know how frustrating some computer things can be... imagine animating a complex model for a special effects shot due the next day, and as you press the save button (after about 21 straight hours) you get the blue screen of death... that happened last year and I damned near launched my computer into orbit

Well, I discovered the joys of Jolt cola that night... next morning my mom thought I was stoned... O_O was what my eyes looked like... but I got the shot done and handed it to editor 15 minutes before deadline (yaaaay)
