Getting dog pee smell out of carpet
So my dog decided to pee on our carpet and I can't seem to get the smell out. I've used all sorts of non-machine type sprays and blotting bla bla, nothing will get the smell out. They mask the smell quite well, but when I put my face to the carpet and take a good whiff, the smell is still there. It's not that big of a deal, but we just moved into a brand new home and I want to do my best to keep it as new as possible. Is there any method of cleaning the carpet and the padding underneath, will a machine get the ammonia smell out of the padding also, or just the carpet? Any ideas or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried any of the enzyme-based products designed for this? You find them in your local pet supply store. I think the one we've used is Nature's Miracle but there is plenty of choice. Always worked for us.

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, I've tried those. They work great on the surface, but they don't seem to penetrate the carpet very well. I'm now looking to go more the machine-of-some-sort route because I really need to saturate the padding, I think. Don't the nice machines saturate the carpet and padding and then suck the water out? I know if you have it professionaly done the carpet is damp for a few hours afterwards.

What have you decided? Just live with it and replace the carpet and padding when it's time. That's what I am starting to think. Do you think the real problem is the carpet or the padding?

You will have to replace the pad, but fortunately you can replace just a small square of it. No one will know and it won't shift or make a bump or anything.
But a shotgun shell can keep it from happening again!

The only way to remove it is with an enzyme. I use PetZyme. If it didn't work, then you didn't saturate through the carpet to the pad. You can't expect it to work if it doesn't reach the pee.
Do it again, it is your only hope Obi Wan.
