Girlfriend X-Mas-- NEED YOUR HELP
man you've got her WHIPPED! ten years and she hasn't even gotten a proposal??
if you grew up in my culture the guy would be pressured to marry the girlfriend within a year of dating. and a ring isn't enough, the parents and girlfriend will expect a couple bars of silver and gold, two or four cows, four or ten pigs, five or twelve sacrificed chickens, and gallons of beer depending on the size of the girlfriend's family and relatives.

OK you guys clearly out classed me, and mns2k is the true romantic!
I was just going to say get her a gift that will bring you two closer and will just keep on giving and giving, day after day.
A driving school weekend for the two of you!

Man..you guys are killing me here.
First off, SHE doesn't want to get married. Second, there's financial reasons NOT to get married (both of us are over-paid engineers)... Third, $800bucks isn't going to cut-it for an engagement ring (I'de have to spend $25-30k for a ring if we go by the 2-month rule)...
And LASTLY, we keep all finances seperate...common-law in Texas is 3 fold: (1) She takes your last name, (2) Your peers acknowledge you are married, and (3) She must live w/you for 6 months... So for the last 10yrs, its only 1 outta 3.
NOW-- back to the GIFT (not wedding!!!)...

If you and her like to ski.........go to the Swiss Alps 800 should cover a trip for her......you on the other hand. Or go to Colorado little closer to home. If you like fun in the sun.............go to the caribian or hell go to BERMUDA! Somewhere warm!
