Default Global population exceeds Earth's regenerative capacity. How can this be fixed?

http://www.rense.com/general26/dem.htm

According to this article and another I've recently read in National Geographic, the human population has already exceeded the Earth's regenerative capacity, and it is estimated that by the year 2050, human population will reach 20-50 billion.

I've racked my brain trying to think of a feasible non-violent solution, but I'm drawing a blank. Any input?

Think of the Earth as a living organism with an immune system. Then think about AIDS, SARS, and other nasties in that context.

The more humans push, the harder the Earth will push back.

Just a thought.....

junk science. people have been predicting the end of the world (or catastrophic consequences) from overpopulation for hundreds of years.

as long as there are acadamians whose sole contribution to the world is coming up with contrived theories to publish and teach as opposed to getting real jobs we will all have to deal with the new world crisis of the week. my apologies to those who love to worry about this stuff but that's mho. there are enough real problems that face us every day that we could spend more time on (unemployment, unelective homelessness, race relations, aids, etc.) than theoretical ones that the overeducated enjoy wringing hands over.

i'm sure this will get me flamed, and i'd love to respond, but i've got a real job unlike the publishers and lecturers who espouse this stuff.

ps - remember when the world was flat?

Look where the largest increases in population are coming from and then consider what to do. Many cultures see their offspring as their retirement plan. Education is the answer! Religion, machismo (ignorance) and a bankrupt culture ensure the overpopulation of the poor and ignorant but nobody wants to tell it like it is. It's a P.C. subject and most don't have the balls to tell the truth. Politicians and educators are afraid of losing their slacker jobs. Parents that secretly want their children to get their (payback) by having families of their own perpetuate the problem.
I have three children. I felt obligated to follow the masses and reproduce. I don't know why. Don't get me wrong, I love my children but wish that my parents had told me that I didn't have to get married and start a family. I wish they had told me how hard it was and how much worrying is involved. And it never ends. Very expensive and mind boggling for the rest of your life. You even have to worry about how they will prosper after you are dead.
I tell my kids that they don't have to have children. I tell them how hard it is and what to expect. No Norman Rockwell portraits. It is work. Being married is work. Lots of work. I tell them that they have a choice and if they chose to marry and have a family, they alone are responsible. There is no excuse for unwanted pregnancies. It's all about choices. Educate and stop treating people like endangered species. That is the sickest and most incidious form of racism that many in our government and institutions of education are guilty of. These so called educated people don't even know that they are racist. They assume that certain cultures are not equipped to think for themselves. "They couldn't have engineered that pyramid or aquaduct. It must of been spacemen."
You reproduce, you pay. Don't ask me to pay for your choices. If you live in a predominately (whatever) speaking country, expect a basic education in that language. If you or your children chose not to educate yourself, you pay again. If you want an education in your mother tongue, you pay again. I remember when I was a kid. Our school had one principle and one teacher per classroom. My kids high school has 6 principles and aids in most classes. The graduating classes are full of kids that can't speak, read or write English or their mother tongue well enough to fill out an employement application. They can't balance a check book! The actual teachers are grossly underpaid and many are illiterate themselves. Nevertheless, they want more of my tax money. Throw more money at it!
When I was a kid, there was one teacher in the class room of 30 kids of many cultures. We learned the basics and passed on to higher education. After school, many kids had to go to Hebrew school or Catacism or Greek school etc etc. The parents payed for this. Tax payers were not asked to foot the bill. Things have gotten out of hand. F.Y.I. I learned a second language (fluent and literate) at 18 and know that it can be done. People are not endangered species that have to be protected and allowed to breed uncontrollably. As long as our government plays this social Darwinist game, ignorant poor people will continue to overtax the system.

Sorry for the rant but I feel very strongly about this and don't see it being said anywhere else.

jfr and jss - both valid viewpoints... Perhaps the world needs a draconic system similar to China's.

My view, like ironwedge, is that Mother Nature will fight back. HIV/AIDS, SARS, West Nile, etc... Something has to give, and I don't think it'll be Ma Nature
