For shopping you could hit up 5th Ave, but I reco SOHO. 5th Ave is only upscale shops, SOHO has all the same, but also boutiques and more specific designer's shops. Plus, you can keep it in SOHO for some good eats, bars, and clubs (depending on your type of nightlife scene).

Sights, you can go touristy and do all of the typical NYC fan fare, but expect mad long lines and security due to the current global situation. Assuming that you are coming to visit friends, have them take you around. Touristy stuff is interesting, but NYC has sooo much more to offer.

Have fun on your trip

for discount designer shopping, like gucci...you should check out woodbury commons outlet center. it's about an hour and a half from NYC. i believe you can catch a bus in manhattan...like one of those bus tours. the japanese tourists love that place. the last time i was there, announcements were in english, spanish and japanese! anyway, i'll ask around and see if anyone has any information on the bus tours to woodbury.

here's a link to their website...
http://www.nyctourist.com/info_woodburycommon.htm

anyway, i'm kinda busy at work..but i took a 5 minute break and decided to check out the activity here today...i'll post more later when i have the time...

Is the stuff fake? Or is it real, but just at a discount?

i would recommend u my favorite store in woodbury commons upstate NY, (interstate 87 highway around exit 16), the store's name is SPACE, they sell prada and mui mui stuff.
they have some clothes, bags, but very limited choices for men shoes. that's why i only get clothes there, but get shoes from prada store in soho or 5th ave, whatever.

another good one in woodbury, is the D and G outlet store, good, and nice cutting suits there. i like those D and G suits 10 times more than Armani's.
