Nice Shaft Choice. I'd go with Taylor. Ping hasn't really been known for their woods. Irons are decent, but even that's debatable.

I personally play a Cleveland Launcher 400 with a Grafalloy Blue S.

PGA Show just finished in Orlando so keep a lookout for the new crap that came out.

Taylor Made.

I don't like PING clubs in general and I have used Taylor drivers with success in the past.

Well, Ping was well known for the TISI driver...

However, I would lean in favor of the R5. That's just my personal preference. You should demo each driver as personal preference is a major factor, as it is true with most golf equipment.

Also, I recommend that you take a look at the Aldila NVS shaft. That's hot.

Have you considered waiting a bit? The Titleist 907 is just around the corner.

I know you were looking at the R5 but wanted to give my input on the R7.

My wife surpised me with an R7 ht for Christmas . . . she paid MSRP ($499) at Golfsmith. I've used a very reliable internet site (www.golfforall.com) and ordered a R7 ht 11.5* with the MAS shaft. ($397 delivered in a sealed TM box). I'm a high handicap (22) and don't swing consistently enough to really benefit from the adjustable weight technology ...however, i can knock the snot out of the ball. I was playing a TM360ti 10.5* . . . I would say I've added 10 to 15 yards, maybe more. Something about the club at address . . . it just looks right.

Well if money is not a concern, i'd go with the R7 too. The the smaller head is a little bit more appealing at address. The moveable weights is a cool concept, but it's not like lead tape doesn't do the same thing.

Fully agree. Giving me an R7 is like giving my 91 year-old grandmother a Ferrari - - - overkill and underutilization. However, it was a gift from the wife and I got into trouble last year when I returned her gift as 'impractical'.

A better use of the funds would be a few lessons. However, I hit it straight enough to get around the course in a manner that is still enjoyable. I don't play or practice enough to get into the low teens / single digit.

Next question is what ball is everybody using? When I can get our consultants to fork over a few sleeves of ProV1's, I love em but I would go broke at the rate I lose them. I played Srixon AD333 at the end of last year and really liked them but found the cover scuffed very easy. Any suggestions....Callaway HX Hot looks interesting but I try to stay south of $20.00/dz.
