Default Got $1000 to spend on a home theatre

So, I have a plasma and a PS3, but now I need some audio to complete the package. What do you guys recommend for around $1000. I'd like it to be HD compatible so I can run the PS3 through it with HDMI. It doesn't need a DVD player or anything like that. Just something with good quality sound. Size doesn't matter, it can be a small satellite setup or floor standers.

Help me out guys! I need some sound!

Pioneer Elite FTW!!! A decent one can be had for about $700; high-end one for well over $1K. They are awesome!

Don't get home theater in box. Get a nice reciever and a seperate bluray player. I got a great Denon receiver. Make sure it has real hdmi pass through.

For 1000 bucks your not going to get anything earth shattering IMHO, but you can get a nice entry level system. I would recommend this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...Tpk=HT-S9100THX

bose is crap, stay away from it.

$1000 isn't much for a high-end audio setup, so i would focus on getting a good receiver and decent speakers and later down the road upgrade the speakers. onkyos' home theater in the box typically offer great value for budget setups, plus you'll have a receiver that will work with future setups, opposed to samsung and sony hitbs. how big is the room for this home theater?

Two superior speakers through a substantially cleaner integrated amp will give you better sound than 5 mediocre speakers through a shitty receiver.

NAD C-325BEE and a pair of PSB Alpha T1 towers
or
Jolida 1301 and a pair of Usher s-520s.

If you have to have surround sound. . . start with a decent Denon/Onkyo/Marantz Receiver and either a pair of the S-520s or PSB Alpha B1s. . . and then build from there when you have the money.

You only have one pair of ears; be good to them.

Get a GOOD 7.1 reciever (Denon) and a set of Klipsch speakers...the REAL ones. You might only be able to get the two fronts at first, but those two fronts with a good sub will rip your hair out. Add the other 3 when you can afford it. Do it right the first time.

1K doesn't get you much. A decent Denon receiver will cost you that much. On the other hand, theatre in a box aren't great when it comes to sound quality.

Decent system will cost your north of 2.5K, and generally more. You want proper floor standing speakers for the front. It makes a big difference in the accuracy point of view ...
