Default Government employees are worthless

So I've been TRYING to register for classes for three weeks. The problem is that I'm not quite clear on what I've already taken, what's left for an AA degree, and what's needed to transfer to a UC. This is exactly the type of thing you'd usually talk to your counselor about. Three weeks ago, I called to make and appointment... appointments are full until the following week, and they only set them on Mondays. I wait and call back the following Monday. The girl on the phone told me there are open spots, but I needed to go through orientation again (wtf... I was there for over a year). So I went to orientation. Last week I call at 10am, and they are ALREADY full. I tell them I've been running in circles for two weeks now and that I NEED to make and appointment for the following week- no help. I called earlier today... they are AGAIN full for the rest of the week. The best help I was offered was a Spanish-speaking counselor (I kid you not, they don't speak English) on Friday. So, I'm stuck waiting ANOTHER week.

I really love the CA public education system right now.

I'm currently sending out resumes for full-time jobs, assuming it'll be Christmas before anyone tells me what the F$%# I'm supposed to enroll in.

Show up at their office. Don't leave without an appointment or talking to someone face to face.

you don't need a counselor for that. Just read the curriculum.

Yeah, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out what you need.

I've taken a semester off and I don't have a currrent copy of my transcript. In addition, I'm changing majors and want to make crystal clear what transfers and what doesn't. I'm probably going to end up enrolling in classes using strictly my best judgement until I can talk with someone, but it makes me mad that after three weeks I can't get 15 minutes of someone's time.

I've been there with the whole orientation thing. My college was tiny. Only three buildings. I was required to take orientation after I had already been though 1 or 2 semesters. That was such a stupid class. They went over everything we already knew and were pushing personality test on us. It was so stupid and cost $$$. Same as any class they offered. Money maker was all it was.

it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what you need.

most of it should be online.. but i guess that could depend on the school you're at too. eh, i would just walk in and wait for a free counselor. better to waste a few hours of waiting and get something done than get nowhere after 3 weeks (i know you've been trying).

Employees at offices of student affairs, registrar, etc are going to be idiots at every school.. think about the qualifications needed to push buttons on a computer, answer phones, and hand out paper work.. then imagine the person that possesses these qualifications so minutely that they couldn't get a better paying job with a private business.. That's who you are dealing with

I took 2 courses that I didn't need to take because my adviser didn't ADVISE me not to last year. And then this past semester the guy at the registrar made me drop a course because I wasn't supposed to be able to sign up for it. It's typical...

you get what you pay for...

as a product of the CA public school system, i can tell you, that you will not get the personal time you think you are entitled to. you are nothing but a number to them, so get used to it. if you dont like the treatment, its fine, cuz there are others in line waiting to take your spot. you need to just figure things out for yourself and rely less on the administration.

yes, arnold signed my diploma.
