Default Govt Refund Check

So I am 21, made like 18k last year, and am a full time college student. Since I am in college I am still claimed as a dependent under my parents.

Half of the things say I get the refund, half dont. I was just wondering if anyone had any insights into the issue. If not I guess Ill have to wait till the direct deposit date - which is in like 8 days.

According to the IRS.gov site, if you have been claimed as a dependent, you are not eligible to receive a check.

Are you eligible? The vast majority of people who file a 2007 income tax return qualify, and many who don't regularly file a tax return may qualify as well. You're eligible if you have a valid Social Security Number (SSN), can't be claimed as a dependent on a tax return and have either an income tax liability or "qualifying income" of at least $3,000. Qualifying income includes any combination of earned income and certain benefits from Social Security, Veterans Affairs or Railroad Retirement. Additional information is below, and a full legal description is available in Revenue Procedure 2008-21.

I think this is because your parents will get money back for claiming you as a child.

Suggested ways to spend your tax rebate:

The Federal Government is sending each and everyone of us a $300+ rebate.
If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.
If we purchase a computer it will go to India.
If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.
If we purchase a good car it will go to Japan.
If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan.
and none of it will help the American economy.
The only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes, weed, beer, and tattoos, since these are the only products still produced in the USA.
Thank you for your help & please support the US.

yeah i defintely feel I am entitled to it - i am a dependent solely for the reason of health insurance.

I will see waht my parents get on their refund. I got a letter in the mail, but my father trashed it without letting me read it for some reason. Needless to say I was angry.

Thanks for the responses guys.

You're getting a lot more benefit out of your parents than this $300 by being on their health insurance.

You can spend it on a nice Smith & Wesson M&P15FT and it'll stay right here in the good ole US of A!!if you don't know what it is, I suggest using google.
