There is a big difference between cops and the tards at Federal buildings (INS, DMV, etc etc)
They hate you. They hate that you are there to register your brand new mercedes. They hate you because you are an immigrant trying to file paperwork. They are scum. They cannot get fired. They KNOW they can make your life a HUGE PITA (you can get deported due to their anger/incompetence).....they literally have you by the balls. They LOVE the god complex, as others stated, and in return treat you like a dog. You cannot say anything to them because they will hit you 100 times harder..maybe not verbally, but can definetely ruin your week. Never compare those idiots to military of any type, fast food employees (much smarter than the morons behind the glass) or any other field of work. Federal paperpushers and "tellers" are the black crap that gets stuck to gum that is on the bottom of your 10 year old work timberlands.

I work for a Public High School.
It sucks because there is no incentive to do well... or be nice.
However most people are nice where I work, and things do get done, but they (like I said) may not get done well.
I'm making ok money right now, but every year, not only do I get a "step" raise based off my position, I also get a COLA (cost of living adjustment). My last cola was 5% and next year's might even be in the %7s.
So basically I can do a half assed job and get a raise for it.
The problem is that I could even be an overachiever, but I wouldn't get anything for it.
Lucky for me, my job has meaning. People who work at the DMV are doing things to keep the cogs turning, but other than that, not so much. They just show up and do what they do, and nothing more.

What you stated is one of the fundamentals of communism....why be a doctor when you can make the same money raking dirt? Why try if you dont get rewarded or scolded if you dont?
Thats why American workforce is considered one of the worst....people want everything handed to them, and dont want to make an honest living....then they wonder why all the immigrants take all the jobs...simple, they do it better, they do it faster, they are smarter, and sometimes, they do it cheaper.....(again, this is not aimed at everyone here, but statistically)

Does it suck to go through the DMV? Yeah, but look at it the other way. Try sitting there all day and half the jackasses that walk thorugh the door are pissed off to begin with because they hate the fact that they have to stand in line, think they are above it and don't want to write out a check for whatever transaction they are doing. Half who get to the counter dont have the form filled out correctly and about a quarter cant speak english in the first place.
Regardless of how fast you process these things the line never stops, and it still does not move fast enough to satisfy the people waiting in it. And when most of em get to the front of the line, if something was screwed up with the form they got in the mail, the person will yell at the guy behind the counter as if it was his fault. You could not pay me enough to do that job. So all I do is have my shit together when I get to the front of the line, pay my fee and get out of there without trying to cause a headache. And if more people in front of me would do the same thing the line would move faster for everybody.
If I was doing that job and if a 20 yr old came up to me thinking he was a baller, tried to "put me in my place" and treat me "like a dog", I would jump over the counter and beat him to a bloody pulp because I see way to many just like it on a daily basis.
Its probably a little better here than in NYC, but last time I waited in line for an hour, and the delay was not so much because of the employees, it was the 100 retards in front of me. Including the lady who only had $11 to pay for her $14 license and decided to through a fit for 20 minutes demanding she should get one anyway. After about ten "Z" finger snaps and waving her head from side to side lecturing the guy behind the counter, I was ready to tear her head off. Cops got there and tossed her ass out.
