You know, you can see how far down the path of socialism we've gone when a former communist leader (Vladimir Putin) warns the new administration about the direction were headed in. At the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Vladimir Putin said "excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state's omnipotence." It may be a "natural reaction" to turn to an increased state role in such times as these, yet "instead of streamlining market mechanisms, some are tempted to expand state economic intervention to the greatest possible extent. The concentration of surplus assets in the hands of the state is a negative aspect of anti-crisis measures in virtually every nation." "In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state's role absolute. In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly."

Why do we ignore the lessons learned by countries that have tried it. We know for a fact that Socialism does not work. There's enough examples of this already. China used to be a very strict communist society and a lot of Chinese people were starving. The farmers land was in control of the government. The farmers eventual secretly seized control of the land and redistributed it amongst themselves. This led to an explosion of wealth which led to reform that have propelled spectacular economic growth of the last few decades.
A socialist society is not efficient, and the closer we move to that, the less efficient we will be. The more we tax the rich, the more we reward the poor, the poorer we make everyone in the long run. There is no argument, only this is irrefutable truth.
