GT3 goodness....
Sunchild,
EA's F1 Championship for PS2 isn't that bad. . . The graphics are first rate, the only downside is that it appears that the physics have some problems. . .
However, if you want a very good driving game, buy Namco's "Moto GP" and play it in simulation mode. The graphics are excellent and it blows the doors off of EA's Superbike 2000. . .
Right now, PS2 doesn't have any great driving/racing games (which is too bad because the technology is definitely available). . . Let's all hope that GT3 lives up to the hype (I'm pretty certain that it will). . .

I've always found the best way to control the GT games is with a Dual Shock controller, but there is a special wheel that will be released along with the US release of GT3, made with the game in mind. Not too many details out there right now about the wheel, but it's supposed to have some form of force-feedback.
But, racing fans, you simply must buy a Dreamcast at this point, as the PS2 has been nothing shy of a disappointment in that department. F355 is probably the best racing simulation ever to hit a console, and while I haven't had a chance to try Test Drive Lemans, I've heard it's also fantastic.

F355 is a fantastic game... incredible driving accuracy, it really is a driving simulator. Too bad that the incredibly horrible dreamcast controller combined with the minutely accurate corrections you need to make aggrevate my RSI.
Been meaning to pick up Test Drive LeMans as well since I've heard nothing but positives, that plus you can't beat it's price of $30.

p.s. I really have enjoyed all the Gran Turismo games although I do find the Japanese versions have had better driving dynamics than their US counterparts.

I'm surprised that you don't like the Dreamcast controller, loki. I am totally convinced that it is the best controller available.
The form factor is brilliant (i.e., it looks cool), and the triggers make driving games as much fun as the little electric tracks with the trigger controlled cars from back in the day.
I guess the thing I love about it is the same thing that aggravates your RSI -- the precision and resistance of control packed into a tiny package.
BTW, I forgot about Sega GT. I'd be surprised if GT3 was better than Sega GT.
BTW again, that EA F1 game is a total dud. The sound is a whining dentist drill. The graphics are pre-1998 quality. The physics are useless. The controller is useless. Long live Dreamcast!!
Another great DC driver: Test Drive: V-Rally, for the hardcore rally fans.

I like the idea behind the Dreamcast controller, but my hands cramp up if I use it for too long. The grips on the sides are too small for my bigish hands. And, it takes a long time to get used to steering and breaking on the same hand at the same time...
But, it's not a bad controller. Just needs to be bigger.
And my VMU's need to stop beeping at me when their batteries die (-:

You guys MUST play Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed on the pc, especially over the net. Competition is great, many different cars mods etc. I am absolutely addicted. Use a jostick but would love to get the msft. ff wheel.

Porsche Unleashed is very good, but it has one major problem: The driving physics through a number of the 90 degree turns are inaccurate. . . Specifically, as the "factory driver" it is nearly impossible to complete a number of the tasks in a realistic driving style. . .
The best Playstation/PS2 driving games (in terms of actual real life physics) are:
1. The (Original) Need for Speed
2. Gran Turismo
3. Moto GP (PS2)
4. Need 4 Speed: High Stakes
