Guess what I'm going to do in an hour from now.
Dig a 10-15 foot hole in the ground with an excavator and remove about spent truck oil filters that someone buried in a construction yard.
what's wrong with burying old oil filters? I have a hole in my backyard where I pour all my oil from oil changes and also throw my filters in there. The funny thing is, after I pour in 5 qts of oil and re-dig the hole in a few months time, the oil seems to evaporate - pretty efficient if you ask me.

I test for contaminants.

You're breaking the law and releasing regulated contaninants into the subsurface soil and possibly groundwater that may be a source of drinking water supply. People have gone to prison for that. Oil doesn't evaporate. It volatilizes into vapor and breaks down into breakdown compounds. People like you keep me in business. Other than that, there's nothing wrong with it.

I read your last sentence and commented on it. Oil does not evaporate. You're looking at soil that is contaminated and not identifying it. You're not seeing oil that has migrated laterally and vertically. That's efficient, all right -- efficient subsurface soil contamination.

When I was in construction we had a fair amount of "emergency" cleanups.
