hand gun questions
Kimber Pro-Carry. Mmmmmm.
Ammunition selection can give you the best of both worlds in a .45 (stopping power and 'projectile control'). You shouldn't worry about shooting through walls.

I'm surprised there are no HK lovers here. I would highly recommend the Heckler Koch P2000 to you. My hand also doesn't fit a Glock right and that P2000 just melts in my hand. It is also very very reliable. They also have a P2000SK that is about the same size as the baby Glock 26 if you want something a little smaller.
Some guy is running a test on his right now, shooting 500-600 rounds through it a week to see when the gun would malfunction. He went 2000 rounds without cleaning it and it didn't malfunction. http://hkpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51749
I always have my Kel Tec P3AT on my body while the Heckler and Koch stays in the car. The P3AT takes up about as much room as a wallet. If you have a concealed carry license, it would make a great choice.
You can compare penetration by caliber at this link. http://www.winchester.com/lawenforcement/f.../win_flash.html
There is very little difference. If it's the .45 you want, then it's the .45 you should get.

I had the P3AT for about 6 months and I sold it. Way to small IMO. Very nice for the days that it is really hot and all you want to wear is a pair of shorts, but otherwise too narrow to get a good grip on.
I like the Walther PPK for size.
I like both the Walther P99 and Glock G17. I don't think you can really go wrong with either.
Personally, I was raised old school shooting a single action Ruger. I still prefer a revolver for personal defense b/c there are no jams and the person on the other end has no doubt that it is loaded since they can see the rounds in the chambers.
For home defense I am pro pump action shotgun. The sound of a round being jacked into a pump shotgun breaks all language barriers. You don't have to tell someone to stop. They know they are screwed.
I also have a pistol that shoots 410 shotgun shells. No stopping power, but from a range of about 10 feet you get about an 8 ft diameter spread. It is almost impossible to miss your target...or anything else for that matter.
