Default Handgun owners

Hey all, I am a gun owner, and have had experience with rifles/shotguns/AR's but not too up on handguns. I might be interested in getting one but....I really dont know too much about them.

The biggest things I want, are cheap to shoot (thinking 9mm?), Semi Auto, and not too big.

I also dont want to drop TOO much on it.. but dont want some pot metal cheapo, just something that will hold up.

There is a gun show here soon and I was gonna swing by and see what they have, but.....I really dont know waht to look for or what's worth what.

Any advice?

I have a bunch of stuff but these are my three favorites.

the .22 is great for plinking.

I prefer Glocks for a few reasons but the 9mm G19 has seen 17k rounds with only a change of springs a 2 or 3 FTF (fail to feed)

I also just bought a Ruger LCP, a .380 that Fits in my pocket and is thinner/smaller than my wallet.

9mm are good for self defense.

I'm not too fond of .45's as they have too much kick for me.

I think 9mm and .45 are the cheapest...I have a 10 mm and ammo is freakin' expensive...$1 per hollow point...$20 for 50 for target ammo

I like the HK USP 45, but that's probably out of your price range...

If you buy a major brand its really not gonna lose any value if you need to sell it later...

Personally I'd stick to a 9, 40, or 45 ACP.

I own a Kel-Tec PF-9, subcompact 9mm, 7+1. This is the lightest and thinnest 9mm semi auto ever made, and is my carry gun. I pack it with 124gr standard pressure hollow points (typically federal hst or speer gd). She is small enough for pocket carry, and packs quite a punch. Inexpensive.. I paid ~$260. The fit and finish is not the best, but it's not bad, and she's been reliable. I've had two FTF (my own fault.. limp wrist) in about 2k rounds. I'm comfortable with this protecting me from zombies.. Remember: no one ever killed a zombie with a .380.

I also have a Springfield XD 45 ACP, compact 4" model.. this is the same as the standard 4" XD 45 except the grip is shorter.. but it comes with a grip/mag extention to make it idential in length and capacity. I went with the compact because the shorter grip option will come in handy if I ever choose to carry it, and I paid $500 something.

I got the XD over a Glock 21 or 30 simply because it fit better in my hand, and felt better when firing.

If you just want something to plink with, a .22 is ideal.. but it gets boring because its quiet and had no kick. Other than that I'd suggest a compact 9mm poly frame. I.e. a Glock 19 or a 4" XD. Both will last forever and be dead nuts reliable.

My 12-gauge remmy 870 XCS marine magnum will do the trick too.. even on those stubborn aquatic zombies.

You guys rock, thanks..

I looked at a taurus PT99 that I really liked, and heard it was similar to the Beretta 92fs which I have shot before and really liked

Its not that compact though.

My friend said he has a Glock 17 he'd sell me for 450...I'm actually gonna shoot a glock today (never have)

Glock 26 with an extended grip. It's specifically designed for concealed carry and it's a 9MM. I have a Walther PPK .380 SS which is relatively small and lightweight. Go shoot a few and see what you like best. Glock 17's are a bit large for concealed carry.
