Last year we told my boss we weren't going to work because it was boxing day. He was from Taiwan, so he believed us.

Apparently the tradition in Victorian times was to give your domestic help a gift in a box on the day after Christmas Day (probably leftover turkey ) hence the name Boxing Day.
