Harley Davidson's exhaust vs. aftermarket exhausts
i have to say Harleys are much MUCH louder compared with Spoon's single outlet exhaust, and i never see cops going after the Harleys for noise pollution. are there different noise standards for cars and bikes?
tell me about it!! i was driving up to nashville and a whole bunch of harleys zoom by and take an exit, i was glad they did exit because i would not have been able to stand it with them near me the entire time to nashville
Guys, don't you realise there are special exemptions for agricultural vehicles.
All real motorcyclists know Harley Davidsons are NOT motorcycles - they are two wheeled tractors.
P.S. they are also known as Highly Dangerouses or Hooley Doolysons

Yeah, I always wondered why Harley's could get away with being so loud. There was a guy in my complex that used to start his Harley up every Sat. morining for a run. He must've woke up the entire complex.
Around here (harley territory), I've never heard of anyone getting stopped for excessively loud pipes. 2 minutes with an SLM (sound level meter) and I'd have a ticket thrown out if I ever got one for some reason. Harley's routinely exceed 100 dB at 10m, which is about twice as loud as it can be. If you've ever been stuck near a group of harleys on the highway (common around here
), you'd really appreciate how bad our stereo is - you can't hear it, even at full volume.
The sad thing is, when you buy a HD they are legal in terms of sound - slightly louder than our cars but still legal. BUT, Harley tells you EXACTLY what to do to make the bike obnoxiously loud so that it is the 'ultimate cool machine'.
Mark - been there done that. Asshole of a neighbor whose only possession was his bike would start it and rev it for about 10 minutes late at night (1am, 3am, whenever he felt the need) because it was such a poorly tuned piece of shit.
Pen - The only bikes that have ever bothered me noise wise are Harley's and the Japanese knock-offs of them. Sport bikes, touring bikes, and the like are not loud.

I agree and I even like loud bikes. But I read about some public parks and recreation areas closing to bikes. Similar to the proposed ban on jet skis. Me? I love two-strokes. Oh well, can't satisfy everyone. If the cops wouldn't get me I'd run an open pipe on our car.
You guys should of been at the Norm Reeves Honda gathering because Oscar Jackson started out with the new amendment on noise pollution tickets at least for Southern California but that cops could not give you a ticket unless they had a sound meter to substantiate the fix it ticket. Thanks to SEMA. So, for now no more fix it tickets for aftermarket exhaust.

Down in Hunington Beach and Seal Beach, the cops are being very strict with the Harley guys and giving out a lot of tickets.

) you'd know bikes are getting banned from all sorts of "public" places due to their noise. Sad but true.
