Sony hinted at it last E3 and, like that article, said it could be an OS. But from what I've heard through the little grapevines I like to hang around, the PS3 will be a multifunction home entertainment console, meaning it will be a games console, but also a CD/DVD player (as it is the PS2 now) as well as a few other functions due to the console having a hard drive.
Again, I CANNOT assure you it will be a full console, but watch the game magazines and websites later this year, as I'm pretty sure with the game console competition as it is now, Sony will want a leg up on Microsoft and Nintendo
