I totally agree that this sheriff is jumping at the chance to "bring in someone big" and prove how manly he is by adding an Elvis to his list of nabs. This is exactly the kind of thing Arpaio would pull in my neck of the woods. Anything to make the news with that guy.

I also agree Phelps probably would've escaped scott free by claiming it wasn't him and saying the snapper was trying to make a buck. The picture really could be anyone, and it looks like a hundred different people I've seen on the street around here. But at the very least he employs the right PR people and has been able to rise above the stupidity of it all with nary a scratch. So he got suspended by his league for 3 months or whatever. The only race he's going to be in that anyone gives a crap about is 3.5 years from now. If he doesn't qualify, everyone then will say it had to do with some inevitable slide into drugs or something. If he qualifies, the pot incident might get a single random mention while he's on the starting block waiting to blow every other person out of the pool.

As far as "F the cops" goes, I don't agree with that, and I know one, and have no problems with them, even the one that ticketed me 8 years ago. Perhaps that's because I haven't ever been screwed over by one, but heretofore I have no major problems. I will say I get annoyed when I see 2-3 cop cars, lights ablaze, on a single traffic stop of a Corolla though.

you know, this could actually be a story to promote smoking pot.

"Wanna be super athletic and win gold medals in the Olympics? Smoke pot! "

Great waste of tax payer dollars...someone needs to reel in that guy. Also, nice to know that Wrigley's is okay with Phelps DUI conviction but smoking pot ain't cool.

Announcement from the Sheriffs office that no charges would be made against any one at the party. Looks like sanity or pressure prevailed.
