have you ever taken IQ tests before?
the reason why i ask is i dug up an OLD OLD OLD score i had when i was like 5 or 6 years old. i didn't read chinese that well then (the test was in chinese), and i hated the test so i think i purposely didn't do well on it. well the score came back and rated me somewhere in the retarded region
needless to say my parents were shocked and disappointed. the good thing is that they never really expected me to do too well in school (my sister did all the work: 4.xGPA in HS, UCLA honors, and George Washington U Law School honors), so i did the usual public school deal, 5-year college plan, and never really bothered with grades.
i had a chance to take another IQ test a few years back and proved to my parents that i wasn't really retarded
anyone with similar experience?

I have a rated IQ of 143, which is two points above the genius line... then again, that score is 5 years old. I'm supposedly a genius, yet I stil average only 3.3 gpa in college... (shrug) hey, don't matter to me, I love my life and will keep living it. But I do have an awesome imagination (so I'm told)
I've taken a few tests and been rated as low as 142 and as high as 148. However, I consider them to be rather silly as they only prove a certain type of intelligence. I maintain that some of the smartest people known wouldn't get over 100 on an IQ test just because they're not that "kind" of smart. Just my opinion, of course.
I once took a so-called IQ test in high school; the scores were on a 0 - 9 scale, whatever that means.
I finished the test in 1/3 the allotted time. How can they compare my performance to that of someone else who took the entire time to achieve the same result?
Rubbish!

As a child, I was suspected by many as being "Gifted", my IQ was tested and it was well into the Genius range. I have tested as an adult, and I am between 135 and 160 depending on the given IQ test. All I know is that I feel that I am blessed, I only have a 9th grade education yet I have a good job, a great girlfriend, 3 animals, and a S2000 ;-). The truth is however, I have spent a lifetime battling depression. So I say it's all a give and take, for every IQ question with a supposed given correct answer, I ALWAY'S have an alternative. IQ can be a great identification tool for identifying special cognitive gifts, however, I think that it should only be used in conjunction with proper follow through. In other words, don't just go and identify a genius and forget about him/her afterwords. The only accurate IQ test's test inate IQ, nothing of the learned variety. What does it all mean? Well the truth is this. The 110's and 115's rule this world, the mediocrity will alway's rule... I also believe that there is a HUGE difference between Genius IQ and a true Genius. I have "Genius" IQ for sure, yet I consider myself no real Genius. Just my 2cents ;-)

I was given an IQ test and the results were so poor that I was not allowed to start to school until I was 7 years old. I still remember the questions on the test. Because my records showed me to be borderline retarded my teachers pretty much ignored me in the 1st through 3rd grades. My parents moved me to a different school to start the 4th grade and by the start of the Christmas break I had gone from 1st to 6th or 7th grade level in every subject. I maintained a 3.88 GPA in Grad school.
Yes, I have taken 2. One when I was 5, and one late into my high school years. The first one yielded a way-beyond "genius" level score, and the 2nd one yielded a way-below "genius" level score. So I also agree that IQ tests are crap -- at least those of the "learned variety" as S2sex said. For example, one of the questions in the 2nd test I took required me to order a set of pictures from left to right in the order of sunrise to sunset. Turns out I ordered it backwards, and I was shocked that they would base your IQ on whether or not you have gotten up early enough in your life to know that there was a visual difference between sunrises and sunsets.
But putting a square block into a square hole, I can do!
