Having trouble finding this cable...

this is category 8 double shielded twisted pair cable. I need about 500 feet. I can find it in bundles of 3000ft. but this crap is expensive. Anyone know where to look for smaller quantities?

Plus, I could argue that I did help by bumping the thread.

I'm really interested in what the application is.

My buddy is in Telcom and said that even Cat6 is even pretty uncommon for massive networks. The hospital uses it, but normally most places just use Cat5e

The shielded cable may provide better potential for future flexibility in terms of what signals can be cleanly carried, or it may allow for a longer single cable run.
I'm curious to know the application as well, but my guess is going to be that it's for some sort of modular or future expandable set up.
Is there a chance that something like this: http://www.quiktron.com/product.asp?sku=22...065&cat_id=2703 might be useable? While these cables and connectors aren't cheap, they will allow you to run lengths of cable and simply attach new ends to the cables as needed. In the future if needs change then you can replace the ends only while not having to tear up walls and floors to change out the cabling.

from a networking perspective, i dont see much use for beyond Cat6.
Fiber is by nature "shielded" in the fact that it doesn't have electrical interference.
I am sure you know this and am interested in what application you would possibly need this for. I can only imagine that a 48pr fiber solution would be cheaper and even more future proof that any copper solution.
good luck, try graybar, or a local structure cabling sub. if they cant get it, you won't be able to.
