Default Help: Best brand of kitchen appliances?

I've read a lot of complaints about GE (even Profile stuff). I don't plan to spend the bucks to put in SubZero, Viking, etc. but I'm looking for high quality gear.

Any thoughts or experiences are sincerely appreciated.

Have you thought about kitchenAid??? Not as expensive as Viking, subzero, Wolf...etc, but they are supposed to be high quality. When we were looking, that was one of our choices..

I don't have any experience with them however...

You cant do better than Viking, Subzero, Wolf.

You only buy these things once, so get them right the first time. They never break, the motors in all the appliances are industrial strength, and you can finance if you need too. Your wife/gf will love you for it.

KitchenAid is made by the same manufacturers of Kenmore, some GE products, and a few others.

I was in the same dilemna. I ended up getting a Samsung (LG manufactured) refrigerator. It was well worth the money in terms of reliability, value, styling, functions, features, and comparibility to the really high end stuff.

Also, the wife and I are replacing our Kenmore dishwasher with a Bosch unit. Again, it's a real quality unit and is priced moderately higher than the North American counterpart. It's also feature filled which allows it to compete with the upper-echelon of appliances the rich-people get to own.

We had Kitchen Aid in our last house, and worked great, especially the gas convection oven/stove.

We upgraded to Viking, Sub-Zero and Bosch this time around. LOVE my Viking stove/oven. Our dishwasher is Bosch and its super quiet.

I'm pretty sure Kitchenaide is a division of Whirlpool. I'm not sure if they share manufacturing facilities and designs though. In this day and age, I'd be surprised if they didn't.

I've read that Maytag has gone way downhill in the past few years and they are near the bottom of the bucket now, so you should do a bit of research if you end up leaning that way.

Did you check out consumer reports? They do appliance reviews all the time and probably give better advice than a bunch of yahoos on a car forum

We are in the middle of remodel ourselves. I am using all Kitchenaide (yes a division of Whirlpool).

Subzero, Wolf, and Viking are all very good high quality items. If your in that price range I would also look into Thermador (they are the hot item in remodeling), Dacor, Fisher Paykel (Dishwashers), 5 Star Appliance and GE Monogram.

But be forwarned, you can spend up to 50k in appliances (Thermador example). But man I love going to high end appliance stores....almost like going into high end car dealerships...../drool.

I have the Kitchen Aid Superba line dishwasher and stove. Both have required a visit from the repairman -- then again my cheap ass purchased them both from the Sears outlet store, so they were probably broken in the first place ...
