Default Help me choose a new coffee maker

So we are moving to a new house, and want a better coffee maker than the Mr. coffee we have now.

What i would like is possibly a single cup system, that is also able to do espresso.
Would be great if it could accept beans, auto grind and then dump in a disposal reservoir that we could empty 1-2x week.
Would also love a water reservoir or a way to hook up a waterline/source to avoid having to fill it every time.
Budget is under $300 or 400.

does it exist? anyone have or know of what i am looking for?

thanks

Dave

McDonalds' have an automatic cup retriever for their soft drinks. It pulls a cup and dispenses ice based on what's been ordered for the drive thru.

What's this got to do with your coffee maker? McDonald's employees still have to make coffee the old fashioned way. Open a baggie of grounds and pour it into a filter. I'm not saying that what you want doesn't exist, but there may be a reason one would want to not use it.

I hope you find what you're looking for, and if you do, I'd be interested in getting one too.

A couple of my dot-boom friends have illy machines. They sell very few in your price range. My boss says it's worth it though. . .

I prefer French stove top and French press myself.

Yes, what you want is made... but it's closer to ~$1-2k

French press and call it done. The amount of care/cleaning necessary for automatic machines is not worth it and your getting a substandard brew.

Let me just say from personal experience that the "put in beans and water" machines are a major PITA. In theory, its a great idea, but in reality, you have to keep them clean of mold builds up and water/coffee is always running out at inopportune times. Plus, unless you can get a water line piped in just for a coffee maker, stale water can taste funny sitting in a plastic reservoir. I'll stick with the "add water and grinds" type from now on.

French press of course are great, but if you don't have the time to boil water, there are plenty of great machines out there for less than $100.

Not necessarily true. A great automatic machine will still be surpassed by a great manual espresso machine, but try Capresso: just make sure you're actually putting good beans into it. The trick with equipment like this is that it really brings out the flavor in the coffee beans.

Often, what we end up drinking in our Mr. Coffees is absolute crap, and we don't know it until we try to put the same beans in a proper machine.

Keep the Mr. Coffee and remain ignorant. I drink Dunkin' Donuts grounds w/ a Mr. Coffee at home, and Community Coffee in the machine at work.

DD coffee is the best.
