Default Help - Storage Unit stuff is wet

I paid for a storage unit for some couches, mattresses and some other misc wood furniture. Of course there is a clause in the contract that i waived them liable for their shitty storage units leaking, having mice, etc....

It appears the wind blew rain under the door and made puddles which then got everything in the place moist.... my couches have water stains and my furniture had a film of water on it......

My homeowners insurance is looking at everything today. the couches seem like a no brainer due to the water rings, etc... but the mattress are dry now and look and smell normal.... would you take a chance on that though? I don't think I should.

any advice to make sure the insurance lady writes off the mattresses?

No advice I can offer except that moisture often doesn't smell like mold until it's actually grown mold. If moisture really did get into the mattress then it's now a breeding ground for bad stuff.

I think I'd be really appealing to the adjusters sensitive side and explain that you don't feel comfortable with you or your children spending hours face down on what will likely be a respiratory danger.

If the insurance company is professional, they should cover everything you say needs replacing. If not, they'll try to find a way out of it....I suggest you keep pushing them to replace the matress if at first they don't want to replace them.

If its in storage, you shouldn't have it anyway.

Damn right, enjoy your shopping trip.

Actually, this kind of sounds like a good thing because now you can scrap the storage unit and associated fees, hang on to the cash, and replace items as needed in the future.

I heard Heath Ledger's mattress was damp from a storage unit so it's good that they replaced it.
