I would recommend telling them exactly what you told us. Tell them that you REALLY want this job, but you had already made plans for a 2 week vacation that cannot be broken. Tell them you have already bought tickets. If they still do not comply, then you don't want to work for them anyway.

didn't you tell them you had prior arrangements before getting hired? usually companies will understand so you can start at a later date. if you can't find a good fib to tell, i suggest you just tell them the truth, and hope that they understand that. I would only do this is you were very recently hired though. And you probably should have told them as soon as you found out you would be training for 5 days. good luck though

Well I'll go ahead and ask for them...

Why didn't you tell them about this trip when you got hired?

If you scheduled the trip after you got hired then you need to be an adult and cancel the trip and follow through with your obligation to go to training (if you truly want this job)

just my "too grown up" $0.02

Sounds like you're going to have to find a new job.

If you really want the job...cancel the trip. If the trip's the most important, then just walk in and tell the company the truth. They'll either reschedule for a later training or show you the door.

The question is, do you want a good job or a good excuse?
