I finally bought this CD from Tower Records, but my wife hi-jacked it from me and I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it for 2 weeks
She's Japanese, and apparently likes it... a lot.

She always frowns when I say I'm going to buy a Morning Musume CD, so I haven't, but since she won't give me back my Utada Hikaru, I just might...

Did anyone see the 2003 Kohaku Utagassen (Red and White Song Festival). I set it up for record on New Year's Day, but I had it on the wrong channel

I saw the show... it was good. This year, they had like 70% of J-Pop stuff and 30% Enka (traditional Japanese music). Worth 4 hours watching.

Cool! Usually it's about 50/50, sometimes even leaning more towards the enka side. That's why I usually tape it and fast forward past the enka parts.
Guess I'll have to go rent it from the Japanese video store here.

Just thought I would revive this thread because of her new American release CD, "Exodus".
I like it a lot, though I thought it was weird when I first listened. ALL ENGLISH.
Did anyone else pick it up?

You know what's funny, Utada did a "collabo" with Foxy Brown.
Download "Blow my whistle" from them.

how's the pronounciation? whenever i listen to j-pop and hear them sing engrish i cringe. some are better than others, but they're mostly pretty lame - bad grammar, bad pronounciation.

but the lamest was when i heard Nori-P singing Chinese in a duet. the song is great, but she could use a good mandarin coach.

pronunciation is fine. I think Hikaru has a good grasp of the English language. She wrote all of the songs except for 2 in which she co-wrote. She did spend a lot of time in the U.S. after all...
There are some songs where the choice of words could have been better, but I've heard (read) a lot of pop songs from the U.S. that have had much worse grammar/selection.

Her songs are pretty edgy and are full of sexual innuendo.
Took a little getting used to, but definitely thumbs up.

Funny thing is at the local Tower Records her CD has been the number 1 seller overall for 2 weeks. I've never heard of a foreign language artist accomplishing that before here.
